Engineering Services

Rolling Stock Engineering

Our Rolling Stock Engineering Services include:
  • Develop vehicle structural designs, from primary structures and bodyshell design to body mounted equipment supporting structures and installation.
  • Perform mechanical assessments to validate vehicle structures’ integrity against operating conditions and mandatory assessments criteria.
  • Conduct safety engineering assessments for systems / vehicles design stages, from risk identification through to risk classification and adaptation of suitable mitigation measures to ensure AsBo approval.
  • Undertake systems development from concept through to detailed design, build, installation, testing and authorisation.
  • Carry out failure investigations, feasibility studies and design reviews.
  • Produce test specification and procedure reports and support type and routine testing.

Approvals and Independent Assessments

Railist Engineers have extensive experience in applying legislative requirements, whilst providing hands-on support and a pragmatic approach in securing safety approvals and authorisation for rail vehicles. From train service introduction to design modifications, our engineers will assist in developing approval strategies and guidance documents for passenger trains and on-track machines.

Our competent lead assessors provide independent conformance assessments in line with RIS-2700-RST (Rail Industry Standard for Verification of Conformance of Engineering Change to Rail Vehicles) that yield to vehicle service authorisation through Attestation Statement certificate. The assessment applies to minor repairs, sub-system modifications or equipment replacement projects. The conformance certification scope can cover the design, maintenance and construction aspect of the engineering change.

Infrastructure

Railist Engineering’s core infrastructural services evolve around conducting Level Crossing Risk Assessments, where we:

  • Undertake a desktop study to collect key data which assist with the assessment.
  • Perform site survey to map the level crossing vicinity, identify key risks and mitigation.
  • Engage Network Rail’s Level Crossing Manager to perform an All Level Crossings Risk Model (ALCRM) exercise to quantify the individual and collective safety level at current and potential operation scenarios.
  • Arrange and chair a Workshop where input from involved stakeholders are minuted and taken into consideration.
  • Produce a “Suitable and Sufficient Level Crossing Risk Assessment” report presenting all collected data, risk evaluation, mitigation measures and also, where the safety levels are found to be “not acceptable”, include solutions with Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) recommending the most favourable solution whilst achieving the safety and financial constraints.
